Specifications of TDXU 4 parting and grooving insert

Parting is a balance between two failure modes. Too narrow and the blade deflects, wanders and breaks. Too wide and you waste material on every cut and pull more power than the machine wants to give. The 3 mm blade sits at the point where most shops find that balance for medium diameter bar.

If you are parting 20 mm to 50 mm diameter bar in steel or stainless, the TDJ 3 Insert will handle it. Below that range a TDJ 2 saves material. Above it, or where the reach is long, the extra rigidity of a TDXU 4 is worth the wider kerf.
