Description
What It Is For, and What It Is Not For VNMG 160408
The VNMG buys you access at the cost of strength. There is very little carbide behind a 35 degree point, so this insert is not a roughing tool and treating it as one is the most common way to destroy a set.
- Use it for copy turning shallow contours, profiling, back turning, reaching into corners and undercuts, and finishing shaped components in one clean pass.
- Do not use it for heavy roughing, interrupted cuts, or scaled bar. Rough with a CNMG, then profile with the VNMG.
- Keep depths of cut modest. The sharp point will take a finishing or semi-finishing depth. Load it like a roughing insert and the point breaks.
