HSS Drill Bits

HSS Drill Bits – Parallel and Taper Shank Twist Drills

High speed steel is still the most widely used drill material in Indian workshops, and for good reason. An HSS drill bit tolerates the flex, run-out and hand feeding that would chip a carbide drill in a single hole, it can be re-sharpened many times, and it costs a fraction as much. Dhankuber Traders stocks HSS twist drills across the full standard range in both parallel and taper shank.

Types We Stock

  • Parallel shank twist drills – straight cylindrical shank held in a drill chuck or collet. The standard workshop drill up to about 13 mm.
  • Taper shank twist drills – Morse taper shank driven directly by the spindle or through a sleeve, used above 13 mm where a chuck would slip under the torque.
  • Jobber series – the standard flute length. General purpose, the right choice unless you have a reason to pick otherwise.
  • Stub series – shorter flute length, much more rigid, far less prone to wander. Use for accurate shallow holes and for drilling on a machine that is not perfectly rigid.
  • HSS-Co, cobalt bearing – typically 5 percent cobalt. Holds hardness at higher temperature, which is what you need for stainless steel, tool steel and other work-hardening materials.
